I am Muslim. Born and raised in England. My father was born in Azad Kashmir; my mother in Pakistan. I never met my grandparents other than my mother’s mother, a wonderful woman whose family moved from the Kashmir valley to Pakistan, where she was born in the city of Lahore.
My father moved to the UK in the 60’s, when he was no older than 15 years old, with his father who was a retired soldier of the British Indian Army, who fought in World War 2. My mum moved here after marrying my dad.
I studied History and English Literature at the University of Westminster, receiving my Bachelors. After that I spent a year teaching and studying to gain a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status. I am currently working on my Master’s at SOAS University, studying History and Arabic.
